Symptoms of MS eased with Back Massage

Recently a lady with MS came to see me for a Back Massage.  She reported aching and stiffness in her shoulders and up one side of her neck. She reported that her upper back and shoulder muscles became much stiffer in the cold weather, almost to the point of seizing up.  The area was tender and she was taking painkillers and muscle relaxants.

When the client lay down on the couch, I noticed that her body was very tense and she held herself very tightly in the upper torso.  The trapezius muscle in particular was very tight, with tenderness around the scapulas.  During the massage I started off gently then gradually increased the pressure on the muscles so that the client  had no problem with pain or tenderness dring the treatment.  The tension and tightness eased considerably as the massage progressed.

Afterwards the lady reported that she felt much better.  All the muscles in her shoulders and upper back had relaxed; the tightness and tension had gone.  She was much more relaxed in herself - you could actually see the difference in her face.

The lady is now going to have regular weekly massages during the winter months to cope with her symptoms, then less frequently as the weather warms up.
